Education

Education, training, and outreach are an important part of the mission of the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. We are dedicated to fostering an understanding in the general public of the direct connections that exist between biomedical research and human health, and to encouraging motivated individuals to pursue science or science-related professions. Over the last decade, we have prepared hundreds of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and other trainees for successful scientific careers.

Educational programs and initiatives at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research include:

Graduate School

The Graduate School of the Stowers Institute for Medical Research provides a rigorous training program that emphasizes highly critical thinking in combination with in-depth training in the latest methodologies. The institute also offers Ph.D. training through the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program (IGPBS) at University of Kansas Medical Center and the Open University.

Postdoctoral Training

Intense collaboration between faculty members and their trainees provides postdoctoral fellows an unparalleled experience and opportunity to gain the experience and credentials they need to launch independent research careers.

Undergraduate Programs

The Stowers Summer Scholars Program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to become immersed in a research topic for a full-time ten-week period and experience firsthand the intellectual and collaborative spirit of research. Lab rotations for undergraduate students currently pursuing a degree in the biological and physical sciences are available during the academic year.
