To make a significant contribution to humanity through medical research by expanding our understanding of the secrets of life and by improving life’s quality through innovative approaches to the causes, treatment and prevention of diseases.

Our Founders

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research was established through the extraordinary generosity of Kansas Citians Jim and Virgina Stowers, who dedicated their personal fortune to improving human health through basic research. The first laboratories opened in November of 2000.
